    Hello everyone,

    I am looking to form a group of people that would be interested in signing up to run a half-marathon in order to raise money for a particular organization (I have narrowed it down to two that are talked about in Half the Sky). Volunteers could be from anywhere in the country and you could sign up for any race that is convenient for you. I figure if I can recruit 13 people total to each raise $1,310 (symbolic for the 13.1 miles), we can really make a difference!     PS - I would strongly encourage everyone, especially beginners, to consider this! I ran my first half-marathon last year and before that, I don't think I had ever even run one or two miles straight in my life! It is an extremely rewarding experience, and I think that my adding a fundraising component for a cause that we all care deeply about, it will be even that much better.

    I am interested. I am already running the Indianapolis half marathon. However, $1310 is a bit scary. I am willing to solicit money, but the half is in May, and that is not enough time. I was thinking of just raising money on my own, but I'm not sure the best way to collect money from people. Have you researched this?

    Hello Kristin,

    I am a runner too (albeit of short distances run slowly!), and had been thinking earlier along similar lines. I like the idea of runners from across the country running in local races. It would be a great way to generate interest, perhaps with the eventual goal of forming a single race dedicated solely to this cause. I would consider doing a half, but I would need time as the longest race I've run so far is 5 miles.
