    Hi Maggie,

I think working on your own empowerment and supporting other women in doing so is very powerful. There is info on this site you might have seen under "get involved" that has some ideas.

Have you checked out www.vday.org? I have been in two productions of The Vagina Monolouges and it was very empowering in many ways. The money you raise goes to organizations that work to empower women.

www.womenforwomen.org is another powerful organization that directly connects you with a woman that you share letters with and you support her by sending $27 a month which most of it goes directly to that woman with the rest going to support the agency.

    Here's wishing you much success!

    Hi Maggie,

That is so cool you want to get involved in humanitarian work with women! You should check out Sis Hope, they focus on lowering the high rates of menstrual related absenteeism among school age girls in developing countries. They are always looking for college students to help spread the word about this issue on their college campus, so maybe you would like to check that out. They sell really cute bags, and for every bag purchased they give a menstrual kit to a girl in need.

    Hope this helps!

There are a lot of great organizations you can get involved in. At many colleges there is a microfinance club - microfinance is a very effective way of empowering women and bringing about change. If there is not an existing club, you might consider starting one, or joining a branch of Young Ambassadors for Opportunity (they are on Facebook) - that is the young person's group for Opportunity International, one of the major microfinance organizations, 85% of whose loans are to women. You can also check out the Two Dollar Challenge, which is helping college students focus on the fact that millions of people live on less than two dollars a day. Good luck!
